How to split PDF pages in half

Upload your PDF

Click "Select PDF File" or drag and drop your document. A large preview shows your page with a dashed line exactly where the cut will go.

Choose the cut direction

Pick vertical for book spreads or horizontal for stacked sections, then drag the line to set exactly where the cut goes. Optionally keep the first or last page whole — useful for covers.

Download the result

Click "Split Pages in Half" and download a single PDF where every page has been cut into two — in the correct reading order.

Why split pages in half with MakeitPDF

Made for scanned books

Scanned a book with two pages per sheet? One click turns every spread into two separate pages in perfect reading order — no manual cropping.

Drag the line, control the cut

A dashed line on the large page preview shows exactly where every page will be cut — drag it to move the cut off-centre. Ideal when the book spine isn't perfectly in the middle.

Split Pages in Half — FAQ

What is the difference between this and the Split PDF tool?

Split PDF separates a document into groups of pages. Split Pages in Half cuts each individual page into two new pages — ideal when one PDF page actually contains two document pages, like a scanned book spread.

Will the pages come out in the right reading order?

Yes. For a vertical split, the left half comes before the right half. For a horizontal split, the top half comes before the bottom half. A 20-page spread scan becomes a 40-page PDF in natural reading order.

My first page is a single cover — can I keep it whole?

Yes. Tick "Don't split the first page" and it will be kept as a single page. The same option exists for the last page — useful for back covers.

Does splitting reduce the quality of my pages?

No. The tool changes each page's visible area rather than re-rendering the content, so text and images keep exactly their original resolution and quality.

Can I choose where the cut goes, or is it always the middle?

You choose. The line starts at the middle, but you can drag it on the preview to move the cut — useful when the book spine or gap between sections sits off-centre. The position applies to all pages, so every page is cut at the same spot.
