Repair PDF — FAQ
What kind of damage can this tool fix?
The tool can fix corrupted file structures — for example PDFs that failed to save completely, were truncated during a download, or have an invalid internal layout. It cannot recover content that was never written to the file.
Will repairing the PDF change its appearance?
Only the internal structure is rebuilt. Text, images, fonts, and page layout are preserved exactly as they were in the original file.
My PDF is password-protected. Can it still be repaired?
If the PDF requires a password to open, the repair process will not be able to read the file. Remove the password first using the Unlock PDF tool, then run the repair.
What if the repair does not work?
Some files are too severely damaged to recover. In that case the tool will return an error message. If you have an older copy of the file, that is usually the best fallback.
Can I repair a PDF that opens but has missing content?
Yes, it is worth trying. A rebuild of the file structure can restore content that was written to the file but became unreachable due to a corrupted index or cross-reference table.
