Grayscale PDF — FAQ
Will converting to grayscale reduce the file size?
Often yes, especially for PDFs with many colour images. Removing colour data reduces the amount of information stored per pixel. The success screen shows you the exact before and after file sizes.
Does the page layout or text change?
No. Only the colour is removed. Page layout, text, images, and formatting all remain exactly as they were.
Can I reverse the conversion and restore colour?
No. Once colour information is removed, it cannot be recovered. Keep your original file if you need the colour version later.
Is there a file size limit?
Free accounts can upload files up to 20 MB each. Pro and Business plans support larger files — see the pricing page for full details.
Can I convert only some pages to grayscale?
The tool converts the entire document at once. If you need only specific pages converted, use Extract Pages to pull them out first, convert those pages, then merge the result back with the original using the Merge PDF tool.
