PDF to Text — FAQ
Will this work on a scanned PDF?
This tool extracts text that is already embedded in the PDF. Scanned documents are images — they contain no embedded text, so the output will be empty. Use the PDF OCR tool instead to extract text from scanned pages.
What does the output file look like?
A plain .txt file with each page's content separated by a marker line (--- Page 1 ---, --- Page 2 ---, and so on). It opens in any text editor.
Is formatting like bold or tables preserved?
No. The output is plain text only — no bold, italic, colours, or table structure. If you need to keep formatting, use PDF to Word instead.
Is there a file size limit?
Free accounts can upload files up to 20 MB each. Pro and Business plans support larger files — see the pricing page for full details.
Can I extract text from a multi-page PDF?
Yes. All pages are processed in one go and the text is combined into a single output file, with each page's content appearing in document order.
